Le sue invenzioni sono riuscite a portare l'uomo sulla Luna, ma lo stesso genio ha alimentato la distruzione durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Sono queste le due facce della vita del 'rocket man' Wernher Von Braun, l'ingegnere tedesco nato cento anni fa, padre dei razzi usati nelle missioni Apollo e delle armi di Hitler. Ideatore dei missili nazisti V2, che causarono oltre 5.000 morti, con la fine della guerra Von Braun si consegna ai nemici americani. Per loro e per la Nasa sviluppa il progetto Saturn, che il 16 luglio del 1969 porta l'equipaggio dell'Apollo 11 e Neil Armostorng sulla Luna. Dopo aver fatto la storia, le strade di Von Braun e della Nasa si separano, e la nuova missione del tedesco diventa la lotta alla proliferazione degli armamenti spaziali. Il luogo dei suoi sogni, dei suoi viaggi fantastici a bordo dei razzi, non doveva trasformarsi in un nuovo campo di battaglia. (a cura di Mauro Pelella)
